FALL CLASS SCHEDULE Sept 3 – NOV 17, 2013

TUESDAYS – Studio Maestro 48 W. 68th St btw CPW & Columbus
6-7:15 Basic Beginner Flamenco Flamenco from Head to Toe! Flamenco brought to you straight from the source, Andalucía. Learn palmas (hand clapping), “taconeo” (footwork), and the lyrical arm & hand movement- called “marcaje” which accompanies traditional flamenco. Whether you’d like to perform some day, or just get a good work out… join us! Simple, lively choreography will be taught in the form of “Tangos.”
7:15-8:30 Sevillanas! (Advanced Beginners Level + Up) Prepare for Feria! This regional dance of Seville is performed in schools, parties, weddings, bars, and of course the annual Spring Fair. Danced in four short sections called coplas, Sevillanas are known for their charismatic, lively gracefulness. Each copla ends with a sudden stop as dancers strike a pose, inspiring the audience to shout … ¡Ole!
WEDNESDAYS – Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana 4 W. 43rd btw 5th & 6th ave
6:00-7:15 Flamenco Bootcamp! (Advanced Beginner Level + Up) Challenge yourself to the max! This class drills technique for a steady 75 minutes. Get strong by building stamina in both upper AND lower body. Bring your H20 and yes- be prepared to sweat. Recommended as a warmup for Advanced Beginner or by itself. More advanced dancers will be challenged
7:15-8:30 Advanced Beginners At this level students continue polishing basic skills by coordinating strong footwork with an expressive upper body. Emphasis is on building posture, endurance, stamina, and strength through an intense warm-up routine followed by short pieces of choreography in various palos. Minimum 6 months intensive study or instructor permission required.

2:15 – 3:30 pm – Advanced Beginners Flamenco see above
3:45 – 5:00 pm – Compás y Palmas EVERY FLAMENCO PERFORMER IS A PERCUSSIONIST! Palmas are the glue that holds Flamenco music, song & dance together. In this class Magdalena cracks open the mystery of the compás. Students at all levels explore the various sounds, rhythms, effects, and subtleties created just by clapping their hands together!! LEARN TO recognize the difference between the “palos” • Get comfortable with ”contratiempo” … from finger snaps to footwork!? • Explore musicality in a casual, fun environment. Recommended for GUITARISTS, DANCERS and SINGERS.
5:00 – 6:15 pm – Intermediate / Advanced Flamenco Develop your individual style and strength. Focus on respectful accompaniment of music which is the essence of Flamenco. Escobillas, marcajes, remates, etc. offer chances for problem solving while also encouraging confidence in traditional and clear movement. Discover your ”soniquete!” Strongly recommended in combination w/ “Compás” class. Minimum 3 years experience required.

Recent Happenings APRIL 25 – MAY 1, 2012: Magdalena returned to Minneapolis for her 6th season year with Kristina de Sacramento's ANDA! FLAMENCO Dance Academy. MAY 5, 2012: was our End of Season Performance at DROM in the East Village. Come check out the amazing progress and hard work. These students are something else! Premiering Magdalena's new Student Collective, "Flamenco Rebelde" On MAY 19, 2012 - NYC DANCE PARADE! we traveled down the streets of Manhattan …. dancing March 15, 2012 Flamenco Rebelde debuted with a fun show and great party at BONGO in the West Village. Thanks for making it a huge hit, the place was packed! On Jan 22 Flamenco con Magdalena presented new material at the LOTUS WINTER OPEN HOUSE. New! KIDS FLAMENCO at the American Tap Dance Foundation The first session ran Jan – March 2012. These talented kids age 9-12 learned a whole (short) Tangos! If interested in starting fresh with us next time around let ATDF know! December 9, 2011 was the Holiday Concert with Flamenco Latino. Flamenco con Magdalena was featured in this festive ensemble. Check out a clip from the show! June 17-26, 2011 was NATIONAL DANCE WEEK in NYC. On June 26th F con M students debuted Sevillanas con Abanico y Mantón at the Culminating Performance, joining dancers from all over the city in celebration. See some FOTOS!
