~STUFF YOU NEED~
MUSIC: "Flamenco Connection" carries a lot of the music I recommend in classes. (located in Virginia!) If you're in NY, here's our local Spanish LUTHIER, also selling castanets, books, and music. Also, try the sponsors of Flamenco Festival, World Music Institute
SHOES and SKIRTS: Visit
MENKES at 250 West 54th St. (Don't forget to mention you're my student for a discount!) Cheaper shoes & skirts sometimes available at SANSHA . Also try
On Stage Dance Wear on Madison Ave, and
FREEDS of London in Long Island City, Queens. A past student of mine, Ms. Brenda Neville, helps run the store out there. For Flamenco practice skirts find a CAPEZIOS store nearest you. Or: get a polka dot or solid one on line at Discount Dance.
STUDENTS: PLEASE MAKE SURE SHOES FIT SNUGLY. They should grab your foot for support! (Don't worry, with enough practice they will break in :-)
COSTUMES: For those of you needing one of these, check out RIVERS EDGE DANCEWEAR (Always be ready for the next show!) This site offers shawls, tops, skirts, scarves, and lots of color combos. Also try this store in Sevilla: E-MOLINA...
and here's another on-line site for skirt and costumes:StarStyled
THE FLAMENCO PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT:

Flamenco Stuff on the WWW - Artist Interviews, Biographies, Materials for class: De Flamenco, Flamenco-World, and Es Flamenco are the three major ones.
A GREAT READ: Insightful, touching, and informative! "Flamenco Chuck" Keyser offers his "Compas Analysis" and other essays on his website. Here's one woman's tale of her journey to the del Gastor family, via instructions on a napkin. Dorien Ross' flamenco magical realism, Returning to A. And here's a New York Times article with an interview of New York's very own Flamenco Scholar, Brook Zern.
Some TERMINOLOGY: Learn the phrases, expressions, and basic Flamenco Vocab needed to communicate confidently. Check out Jose Merce's Diccionario Flamenco.
Your very own DANCE FLOOR: Practice your steps on a few tiles from the
Jubilee Dance Floor Company. These can be purchased in 2' x 2' tiles. Great for warming up before a show, or in your kitchen :-)
